According to Oregon State University’s Vice Provost for Student Affairs Dan Larson, the school plans to hold the main commencement ceremony virtually, due to the pandemic. Yet, the school is considering that by mid-June, smaller events commemorating graduation may happen in person.
Like other Oregon’s post-secondary schools, OSU has not had a ceremony in person since the pandemic. Larson is acknowledging the possibility of an in-person event this year would require the celebrations “obviously outdoors and with other measures in place.”
Larson told the Board of Trustees on April 2: “If we had to make the decision today on today’s current public health conditions, probably not.” A possibility though exists: “But it’s important to take a look at it, and recognize that some sort of in-person celebration is important.”
Larson says OSU is planning to return to mostly in-person classes this fall.
