OSU Press has named its former marketing manager Marty Brown as the fifth director to oversee the state’s only university press.
Brown has more than 25 years of publishing experience, most recently with the University of Washington Press. She will focus on building communities around books through publishing foundational regional works and peer-reviewed scholarship.
“Marty’s experience positions her perfectly to build on the press’s rich history in a sustainable and forward-looking way,” said Anne-Marie Deitering, Delpha and Donald Campbell Dean of Libraries at OSU. “She brings deep experience with book publishing in the Pacific Northwest, including nearly a decade spent at OSU Press.”
An active board member of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, Brown has strong ties to Oregon’s publishers, booksellers and authors. She developed and taught the first business-oriented class in Portland State University’s publishing program, oversaw operations at Timber Press and the University of Washington Press and ran a boutique letterpress printing business.
“It’s a true privilege to be back at Oregon State University Press — the last, best university press in Oregon. I’m looking forward to connecting with past, present, and future authors, shepherding our incredible list of new and forthcoming titles and collaborating with the smartest and hardest-working publishing staff anywhere, ever,” Brown said. “The work that we do to publish peer-reviewed scholarship and regional books is more important than ever, and I am humbled to be part of it.”
Under her leadership, Brown said Oregon State University Press will continue publishing content for and about the diverse people and places of the Pacific Northwest along with scholarly works that expand and further academic discourse.
