OSU Taps Perry Hystad to Takeover as Associate Dean of Research, College of Health

Oregon State University has announced the appointment of Dr. Perry Hystad as their next Associate Dean of Research for the College of Health, effective September 16, 2025.

Hystad’s background includes interdisciplinary and impactful research – his focus has been on studying the environment’s impact on human health. He has not only been researching, but his work has also moved him into leadership roles over time.

With over $23 million in research funding and more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, he leads the Spatial Health Lab and has built strong partnerships with global and local agencies to translate science into meaningful policy and health outcomes.

His collaborative approach and commitment to inclusive excellence align closely with the college’s mission and vision, and his research strengthens the college and university’s strategic research priorities, which include climate science and related solutions and the environmental impacts on human health, and the use of artificial intelligence and supercomputing to accelerate scientific discovery.

To ensure a smooth transition, Hystad will work closely with the College of Health Leadership Team and current Associate Dean of Research, Dr. Marie Harvey, over the summer.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Harvey for her 14 years of dedicated service in this role. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing our research enterprise, supporting faculty success, and elevating the college’s national and global impact,” said a release from the university.
