Pacific Power Grant Funds Benton County Renewable Energy Program

Benton County has been granted a funding award from Pacific Power. The funding comes from participants in Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Program and is for $162,276 — enough to cover 65% of the cost it will take to install solar panels on the roofs of county buildings.

These community-funded grants have helped multiple organizations covered by Pacific Power move towards renewable energy sources. Blue Sky participants opt into matching part or all of their energy usage with renewable energy; this helps reduce their carbon footprint overall.

Participants also have the option of tapping into Blue Sky Block, through which they help support renewable energy projects for community organizations such as community centers, arts organizations, and schools.

This project will help lower County buildings’ reliance on the power grid, a move that saves money and is better for the environment, according to Paul Wallsinger, the County Facilities Manager.

Construction will start in summer 2021 and should begin operation by the end of the year.
