Over the ten day period before and immediately following Christmas, Portland International Airport saw more than a quarter of a million people. Well below the number of travelers in the same time period for 2019, but far higher than the numbers expected or hoped for.
Overall, December’s air travel though Oregon’s largest airport is down about 69% from 2019, according to an article from OregonLive. These figures resemble what happened at Thanksgiving.
Travel over the Thanksgiving holiday through Eugene Airport went down this year by almost 58% with only 2,515 passengers leaving over Friday through Sunday, according to KEZI. The airport does not track inbound travelers.
Nationwide, millions of people traveled over the two major winter holidays despite the governmental warnings against it.
