Pest Problem? Heartland Might Have Your Solution

There are thousands of stray and feral cats in Benton County alone, and unfortunately not enough homes for every fuzzy critter around. Many of these cats make their way to Heartland Humane animal shelter. And more still are trained and find their forever homes with loving families. Others simply aren’t cut out for traditional housecat roles. Whether it’s because they’re a bit tougher and more experienced on the streets, or simply don’t want to stay indoors, it can be hard to effectively rehome them.

So, rather than condemning these cats, Heartland Humane has an equally adorable and efficient program – the Working Cat program.

All working cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, ear-tipped, vaccinated against FVRCP and rabies, and dewormed before adoption. Once that’s finished, these fine fuzzballs earn their keep by protecting their peoples’ homes from even smaller critters that are causing problems.

Now, the Heartland Humane working cats help you control rodent populations on your property and patrol the area. And as a bonus, they look super cute while doing it, so it’s hard to find fault here.

In exchange for food and fresh water, along with shelter in the form of a barn, outbuilding, or shop, these little guys will keep your property a touch tidier with minimal work on your part. And for only $40, it’s really a win-win – you get built-in pest control, and a kitty gets a home. You can find the interest form here, and details on how to settle your adopted cat here.
