Hours before anyone would call Tuesday’s presidential election, one could see the impending reality coming – the numbers looked bad early, they kept getting worse. Sadness set in. But there was work to do, and certainly the comforting familiarity of processing stories on local election results would be, well, comforting. It wasn’t, and basic concentration was a struggle.
After the work was done, I trundled to a piece of open floor and worked out for awhile – sleep only came after a binge watch of old Dexter episodes. Pathetic, I know, but it was my weird-ass way of taking care of myself. I did what worked for me, and work was better the next day – please do whatever works for you.
And for the moment, that feels like enough. We at The Advocate don’t yet have much to say about Tuesday’s presidential election – there will be time enough for that later.
On the other hand: there’s videos posted below. Some of us were touched by Kamala Harris’ concession speech, which felt more packed, in a good way, than it had to be. Historians will treat it kindly. Senator Jeff Merkley’s office sent out a link to his video – so we were, like, okay, we’ll click on it – and we have to say, we think it covers a good chunk of the current landscape. He ends less skeptically than how we’re feeling just now, but we’re hoping he’s right.
We’ve also included Desi Lydic’s sendup of the election, and Kacey Musgraves and Skip Marley covering Three Little Birds, because you may need those right now.
