Save Corvallis Schools Announces Recall Petition Signing Push, Sets Numerous Events

In Oregon, folks circulating recall petitions have a ninety-day deadline for turning in enough signatures to force a vote. For proponents of Corvallis’ school board recall effort that deadline falls on April 6, and they’ve just announced a final push, scheduling numerous signing events communitywide. We give you the specifics below.

According to Darla Rush, the acting director of Records and Elections for Benton County, the petitioners need at least 4,577 voter signatures. That minimum is derived from a formula set by state law. If the petitioners are successful, the County would then have 10 days to validate those signatures.

If that happens, they will then notify each of the elected officials affected, who can decide within five days to resign or rebut the petition. If they do the latter, the County is obligated to conduct an election within 35 days.

Save Corvallis Schools is behind the effort; the chief petitioner is Corvallis parent Will Rottenkolber. In January he told us the organization is informal, and that among the group, about two dozen have stepped forward to spearhead the recall effort. They have gained volunteers since, and are offering numerous opportunities for interested folks to sign their recall petitions.

“This recall effort isn’t about any one person on either side. It is about the decisions that this board has made over the past 15-18 months and their impacts on students, teachers and the greater Corvallis community,” said Rottenkolber.

Here is the list of upcoming signing events:

Popsicles in the Park Hosted by Save Corvallis Schools

Popsicles in the Park is planned as a relaxed spring‑break gathering for families across the district. Kids can play, families can connect, and everyone can enjoy a sweet treat as Corvallis welcomes, hopefully, warmer weather.

There will also be an optional area where community members can learn about and sign the school board recall petitions. Participation is completely voluntary. The release from Save Corvallis Schools says, “Come for the popsicles, stay for the community”
