Moratorium Details

On Dec. 21, Oregon Legislature extended the eviction moratorium in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for qualifying tenants. They also allocated funds to a Landlord Compensation Fund and tenant-initiated rent assistance programs.

A prior house bill and a subsequent executive order issued by Governor Kate Brown prevented most evictions through the end of 2019. the current bill extends restrictions until June 30, 2021.

The critics say the bill is lengthy and may be unclear in places. It revises the form rules, practices, and penalties assigned to the landlords in violation of the bill and addresses assistance to the landlords for missing rent payments.
