Thursday’s Corvallis Arts Walk: Social Conscience, Multiplying Mediums and Fae Folk

Living Studios Arts has been providing a creative space for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a window display partnership at the Corvallis Museum. See it at this Thursday’s Corvallis Arts Walk.

The Corvallis Arts Walk continues to, probably unintentionally, expand the mediums and dialectics on display – and if that sounds eclectic, it is. Social conscience visits as well, see the talk at The Arts Center and what’s happening at Living Studios.

Most locations will be open from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, May 21. And, also, fae-folk, there are promises of fae-folk. Here’s what’s where for this month’s CAW.

Adrienne Fritze Art Studio 460 SW Madison Ave, Suite 12, Second Floor

Incompletions & Disappointments (part deux) – “We almost didn’t show you this.” Unfinished work. A theatrical cape that never found its occasion. Stained glass stopped mid-cut. Paintings and Extreme Collage™ abandoned mid-thought. One piece pulled straight from a dump bin by a partner who saw something the artist had stopped seeing. The show asks two questions. What does an unfinished piece mean to the person who made it? And what does it mean to someone who loves it anyway — or never thought it was broken to begin with? Returning for a second month. New artists. New pieces. Some works rotate out, others arrive. Two desks invite you to answer back. What have you almost thrown away? What do you call finished, and who gets to decide? Leave a note. Leave a story. Leave nothing at all. There are no wrong answers. That’s rather the point.

Pegasus Gallery, 312 SW Madison Ave

Continuing a Celebration of National Poetry Month with Pegasus’ 22nd Annual Art & Poetry Exhibit in an ekphrastic exchange of images and words. In a 1956 speech, JFK famously noted, “if more politicians knew poetry and more poets knew politics, I am convinced the world would be a little better place in which to live”. In 1996 the Academy of American Poets launched an annual celebration of poetry every April. With a creative, academic and diverse community like Corvallis, the Pegasus family and friends jumped in and dedicated themselves to hosting that ritual of ekphrastic exchange. This year many locations in the community will be hosting similar experiences. Jump in! Contact different locations participating in the Corvallis Arts Walk (CAW) and express yourself or just look, listen and contribute your energy. Art is powerful. Words are powerful. You are powerful.
