The Corvallis Police Department will be performing construction zone safety operations during commute times for the next several weeks. The goal is to improve safety for drivers and construction crews while the Van Buren Bridge is being replaced, through education and enforcement of Oregon traffic laws.
The operations will consist of one or multiple uniformed patrol officers operating marked patrol vehicles. Those committing traffic violations may be subject to education or enforcement.
The Corvallis Police Department is dedicated to enhancing traffic safety. Drivers are encouraged to be alert during times of heavy traffic congestion or when within construction zones.
Driver safety tips:
- Follow the speed limit.
- Do not drive carelessly past other vehicles to try to get in front of them/cut them off.
- Expect delays and plan ahead.
- Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather.
- Slow down and be prepared to stop when turning or otherwise entering a crosswalk.
- Do not enter an intersection until the road in front of you is clear to proceed.
- Watch traffic around you and be prepared to react by reducing your speed.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
