Government: Trash Talks Start Up, JSIP Draft of Master Plan, New Public Health Positions Requested

The Benton County Board of Commissioners will be meeting for a working session on Thursday, September 8, at 9:00 a.m. If you’d like to attend the meeting, the details can be found here  

Trash Talks Begin: The Benton County Talks Trash workgroup will have its first meeting. This first meeting will focus on how the workgroup will interact and fine tuning the process to move forward

Justice System Talks: The Justice System Improvement Program (JSIP) Director, Nick Kurth, will be sharing the latest draft of the site master plan.   

Also in the JSIP discussions will be a request for an exemption from competitive bidding for the construction of the new courthouse and District Attorney offices for Public Works. This request was advertised in the Daily Journal of Commerce and the Gazette-Times less than a week prior to this first public hearing. If there are no objections, the exemption will be granted on September 20.  

Oak Creek Extension: Also on the agenda is a discussion about the extension of the contract for Linn and Benton counties to house youth offenders in the Oak Creek Correctional Facility. Currently, the contract the counties had with this facility expired June 30, 2022, and they are asking to extend that date through December 31, 2022.   

New Public Health Titles: The Board will begin talks about creating two new public health positions – Climate and Health Coordinator and Communicable Disease Investigator.
