Northside Open Studios Tour This Weekend, Very Corvallis in All the Best Ways

This weekend, the 4th Annual Northside Open Studios Tour throws open its doors, offering over fifty artists, including youth, at fifteen locations. Free and open to all, the tour spans both Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, from 10 am to 4 pm.

The scope of the work for sale is vast, with much to take in, including paintings, metal work, functional and sculptural ceramics, glass art, fiber art, watercolor, jewelry, collage, woodturning, mixed media, and much more.

While the art is the main attraction here, it is notable that all the exhibiting artists are donating a portion of their proceeds to Corvallis nonprofits. And no, you’re not obligated to buy anything, this tour is thoroughly enjoyable for shoppers and non-shoppers alike.

That said, it is worth noting the impact the Northside Open Studios Tour has been having. Over the last two years their exhibiting artists have raised over $7,000 for local nonprofit organizations.

This year they are further expanding awareness and fundraising for three nonprofits; Vina Moses, the Corvallis Environmental Center, and a Ten Rivers Food Web grant which will help OSU students with food insecurity. A percentage of each artist’s sales will go to these organizations.

There are also a couple of other soft but direct nudges from the tour’s organizers.

First, they are really wanting to convey that the public is encouraged to explore all the home studios on this two-day tour by foot, bike, or carpool. Like, no judgement if you can’t make that work, you’re encouraged to swing by anyhow.

Second, is more of a nudge-hint-nudge directed at business owners, and if that’s you, they’d love it if you would be willing to match whatever they raise for charities. Can’t do that this year, maybe contact them about next year.

Speaking to the mix of art and giving from the Northside Open Studios Tour, co-organizer Avie Meadows said, “As an artist, I’m committed to co-creating the type of world I want to live in. I love using my art and vision to help bring more beauty, meaning, connection and security to everyone in our community.”

Also, we cover many of these kinds of events, and we have to say their website is really-really easy to use. You’ll find a map for all the locations, and profiles of all the artists, and some more info about the nonprofits the tour supports. You can visit the website at: https://www.nost-art.com/
