Western Governor’s Student Art Contest: Celebrate the West

Celebrate the West is accepting art submissions from high school students for their 6th annual art contest.

Hosted by the Western Governors’ Association, Celebrate the West asks that students submit two-dimensional, original art that conveys what their state means to them, how their state inspires them, or the distinctive experience of living in the West. This can include the culture, national parks and monuments, landmarks, and people in the state.

Students from the 17 Western states, as well as the three U.S. territories with Governors who participate in Western Governors’ Association, are eligible to submit work. There are winners in each state, and those finalists move on to compete with the finalists of the other states.

To enter the contest, submit a digital copy of the entry via email to WGAart@westgov.org, as well as a completed entry form. The deadline to enter the contest is April 30. Entry is free, and charges for framing, matting, and shipping are paid for by WGA.

WGA staff and Denver area art experts will pick the finalists from each state or territory, and those finalists will display their works in an online competition. That competitions will be held alongside WGA Governors’ Annual Meeting in Sunriver, Oregon, from May 14 to 16 this year. Meeting attendees will vote for First ($1,500), Second ($750), and Third Place ($500) awards. The other state finalists will win $200.

Students may also have their work displayed in their state capital and meet with their governor, though that is subject to scheduling and availability.

The competition will end, and students will be notified of their results on May 21.
